WELCOME TO
Swallowing Recovery Solutions
Swallowing Recovery Solutions, previously known as Maumee Bay Mobile Speech Services, is an adult-focused speech-language pathology practice tailored to meet the needs of adults and elders suffering from changes in breathing and swallowing.
Our approach is collaborative and person-centered, meaning we work with you or your loved one to understand how your unique challenges are affecting your daily life. We then develop goals to focus on the aspects of dysphagia and swallowing management that are important to you so you can confidently eat out with others, increase nutrition and hydration, prevent or reduce choking, and get back to living your best life.
We offer outpatient dysphagia and swallowing management services in your home, our office, or in the virtual space. We are licensed in Ohio & Michigan!
Using Evidence-Based Treatments to Help Your Reach Your Goals
We offer the use of many unique tools and programs such as Mobili-T sEMG biofeedback, Dysphagia Intervention for the Esophageal Zone (DIEZ) Technique, McNeil Dysphagia Treatment Program (MDTP) for dysphagia treatment, and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) - Loud for individuals with Parkinson's Disease.

Mind-Body Connection
The act of swallowing is not merely mechanical; it is also influenced by stress, anxiety, and emotional states. For instance, heightened stress can exacerbate swallowing difficulties by increasing muscle tension or triggering hyperawareness of normal swallowing. Conversely, chronic dysphagia can lead to significant mental health challenges, including social isolation, fear of eating, and a diminished quality of life. Addressing dysphagia through a mind-body approach acknowledges these dual aspects, aiming to improve both physical swallowing function and emotional resilience.

Swallowing / Dysphagia
Dysphagia rarely occurs in isolation; it is typically a symptom of a broader medical condition. Common causes include... Neurological disorders: Stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS, and dementia often disrupt the neural pathways essential for coordinated swallowing. Structural abnormalities: Tumors, head and neck cancer treatments, and esophageal strictures can impede the swallowing mechanism. Systemic conditions: Autoimmune diseases like scleroderma or Sjögren’s syndrome, as well as muscle disorders like myasthenia gravis, can impact swallowing. Aging: Presbyphagia, or age-related changes in swallowing, is influenced by both physical and cognitive aging processes. This interconnectedness underscores the need for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to both diagnosis and treatment.

Upper Airway & Swallowing
Breathing and swallowing coordination is vital to prevent aspiration and ensure safe swallowing. The two systems share anatomical pathways, requiring precise timing. Swallowing typically occurs during exhalation to create positive pressure and protect the airway. Disruptions, such as in neurological disorders or aging, can lead to aspiration or dysphagia. Therapy often focuses on restoring coordination through exercises, improving safety, and enhancing swallowing efficiency.

Effective Results
Swallow Recovery Services integrates evidence-based practice, informed decision-making, and quality of life into care by using advanced diagnostic tools, proven therapies, and the latest research to guide treatment. Each client’s unique medical history, preferences, and goals are prioritized to create tailored plans. Collaborative discussions ensure patients understand options, promoting active participation. This approach improves swallowing function while addressing emotional, social, and physical well-being.
